Keyano reopens Health Care Aide program for winter intake

Posted On Thursday October 07, 2021

Starting in January 2022, Keyano College will once again be offering the Health Care Aide program.

Last month, Premier Jason Kenney announced that the region will be investing $36 million in supporting home care and the important role that Health Care Aides play in relieving the pressure on hospitals during the pandemic.

The Health Care Aide program is a 32-week course that provides students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes they need to practice as a Health Care Aide.

Eli Ahlquist, Dean, School of Health & Human Services said, “Health Care Aides have always been an integral part of our health care system but as the pandemic progresses, they are more important than ever.

“The strategy to relieve the pressure currently felt on hospitals across the Province by discharging patients into continuing care facilities or to continue to provide support at home is important for our health service to continue to be able to provide the emergency and critical care needed at this time.”

The investment from the Alberta Government is planned to both increase healthcare capacity and salary for workers. Keyano is now accepting applicants for the January cohort, for more information visit Keyano.ca/HCA
