The Keyano College Huskies have welcomed their new men’s and women’s soccer coach in time for the 2021 season this fall.

Niels Slotboom, has taken the position after six seasons coaching with Keyano rivals, the Olds College Broncos. The Dutch-native coach has experience as a student athlete himself, representing the Lakeland College Rustlers.

The Athletics department is excited to welcome Niels after the last years’ season was disrupted by COVID- 19, which saw all competition suspended for the 2020 season.

Director of Athletics, Jonathan Lambert said, “Huskies Athletics is extremely happy to have Niels join our coaching staff to further the success of our Men’s and Women’s Soccer programs. He brings with him a vast knowledge of the game as well as understanding the importance of balancing the academic and athletic demands of our soccer student-athletes to ensure success.”

“We expect that he will become a vital resource within our soccer community and will help continue to build strong relationships that will ensure our Huskies soccer programs are part of the grass root development of Soccer within the Wood Buffalo region,” continued Lambert.

Niels Slotboom said, "I'm looking forward to joining the Keyano Huskies and the Fort McMurray community, I am excited about bringing the programs to the next level and competing at the top of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) and the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA)."
