Keyano College is receiving more than $45,000 of equipment, as a donation from Regional Emergency Services of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB)

The surplus surveying equipment will be used for the Environmental Technology Diploma program.

The equipment includes a variety of global position system (GPS) handheld units, which will be integrated in the environmental science diploma courses. Many of these courses feature outdoor labs, which will benefit from high quality and high accuracy technology provided by the Trimble handheld units.

Program Chair, Jean-Pierre De Viliers said, “Our geographic information systems (GIS), soils, and forestry courses have labs which teach diploma students to use GPS units in the field to precisely locate points of interest and integrate these into mapping exercises.”

“We’re very grateful to Regional Emergency Services for the donation of this equipment. Having access to top of the line technology will improve the learning experience for our students.”
