Keyano College successfully transitioning courses to virtual delivery
(March 27, 2020) Keyano College is responding to unprecedented challenges in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak.
On March 15, the College followed the direction of Alberta Health Services and cancelled all face-to-face classes. Four days later, blended delivery of courses began. The College transitioned each course, where feasible, by building pathways for learning using virtual tools.
College administrators report the transition has proceeded well, and that the Winter Semester is progressing. Some of the technologies faculty are using to deliver courses virtually include: eLectures, videos, screen captures, web conferencing, telephone, email, virtual labs, and simulations.
To assist students throughout the transition and beyond, Student Services personnel, including Mental Health Coordinators and Tutors, are continuing to provide support through email, telephone, social media, and web conferencing.
Although the Keyano Library is physically closed, it also remains open online. The Library staff continue to assist students and faculty with their research needs while working from home.
“In this time of uncertainty and change, Keyano College teams are working hard every day to ensure students have the tools and opportunities to be successful,” said President and CEO Trent Keough. “We continue to support our students through virtual means and there is amazing work going on behind the scenes that is making a difference.”
While the Winter Session nears completion, courses for the Spring Session, including College Preparation courses, are also being structured to move ahead through blended, instructor-guided online delivery.
