Darold Roles

Darold Roles is thrilled to be back in the free-lance theatre world after having served for seven years as the Artistic and Education Director of the Canadian College of Performing Arts. 

He originally hails from Alberta where he earned a Bachelor of Education in Drama from the University of Alberta and an MFA in Theatre in Directing from the University of Calgary. His successes in the professional theatre and post-secondary education field include work as a director, choreographer, performer, producer, writer, teacher and respected administrative leader. Mr. Roles has served as Dean of Arts and as Chair of the Performing Arts at Red Deer College. During his time in the Red Deer community, he was awarded a Mayor’s Award in the Performing Arts field and an Exemplary Leadership Award from the International Chair Academy. Prior to that he was the Artistic Director of Keyano Theatre and instructed in the VPA department at Keyano College.  He has fond memories of creating hit productions for Keyano audiences such as; Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Wizard of Oz and Evita.

He was a co-founder and co-Artistic Director of KOMPANY!, a professional song and dance company that toured across North America, Europe, Japan and Australia for 28 years. His work with KOMPANY! and as a freelance artist in Edmonton earned him numerous Sterling Award nominations for Outstanding Musical, Best Choreography and Best Cooperative Production. He has adjudicated major Provincial dance and theatre festivals and presented Master Classes throughout Western Canada.

As a director and choreographer he has received rave reviews for hundreds of smash hit shows including; Mary Poppins, Beauty and the Beast, A Chorus Line, Chicago, Footloose, The Crucible and Edward Albee’s The Goat or Who is Sylvia? He was the Performing Arts Director for the Alberta Summer Games and has co-authored the hip new musical The Jazzcracker with Ron Schuster and jazz music master Tommy Banks. 

Ron Schuster

Ron’s passion for the Arts has taken him on a journey of over thirty award winning years as a professional artist in Canada.  He has worked in several communities throughout Western Canada where he has been heavily involved as a performer, director and writer in dance, musical theatre and film.  His teaching experiences at post-secondary institutions involve work in major Theatre Studies and Motion Picture Arts Programs (including Red Deer College, University of Alberta and Keyano College).  Most recently, Ron nurtured young artists in his role as College President at the Canadian College of Performing Arts.

Ron brings a rich background of experiences in the Professional Film and Performing Arts Industries to his teaching.  Highlights of some of his accomplishments include;

·         Co-Founder and Co-Artistic Director of the professional Musical Theatre troupe, Kompany! that toured nationally and internationally for 27 years.

·         Facilitated numerous film training programs and International film festivals for the National Screen Institute of Canada.

·         Worked on several profession film crews for TV series, Short Films and Movies in the Assistant Director Department.

·         Wrote, Produced and Directed 2 short films.

·         Choreographed numerous television commercials and music videos.

·         Participated at the inaugural “Dance and the Camera” professional workshop at the Banff Centre of the Arts and performed in several dance video productions that required strong dancers who could act.


The Keyano Theatre & Arts Centre continues its commitment to presenting quality programming, providing a supportive, accessible facility, and cultivating a healthy and vibrant arts community. It delivers learning and development opportunities for the community through the Keyano Theatre Company, workshops, mentorship, collaborations and partnerships.  

The Keyano Arts Centre opens its doors for community-based initiatives including private instruction in all disciplines of the arts. Instructors operate privately and independently taking responsibility for their own student registration and administration.
