Music students enter a world of opportunities at Keyano College. Performing ensembles include the choir, concert band, jazz band, small vocal ensemble, guitar ensemble and string group, all of which are showcased on a regular basis. Small class sizes, exceptional facilities, highly qualified and experienced faculty all contribute to providing a setting where your opportunities are endless.

Students who are relatively new musicians may be placed in the Music Preparatory year, an introductory program designed for students with a limited background in music. Initial courses in theory, ear training, music reading, history and practical applied subjects will give students the necessary tools to commence their musical training.

An audition and placement exam will determine if you need to enter the preparatory year or if your prior experience will enable you to enroll in year one of the diploma program.

Transferability

Graduates of the two year Music Program may be eligible for transfer to the following institutions:

• University of Lethbridge: School of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Music, Combined Degrees: Bmus/Bed
• University of Alberta: Bachelor of Music
• University of Calgary: Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Music

• High School Diploma, or equivalent with English 30/30-1 or 33/30-2 and audition/interview. Students who enter the program with English 33/30-2 and who wish to transfer may have to take English 030 and might not complete their transfer program in four terms as English 030 is not credited towards certificate or diploma requirements.
• Mature students 21 years or older: English 30/30-1 or 33/30-2, or equivalent and audition/interview.
• If you are missing one or two required High School subjects it is possible to enroll in combined studies and take the necessary courses at Keyano College or a local high school, while beginning your music studies.
