MIR Graduation Ring. Read about the MIR ring in Campus Connection. In the MIR Program, you'll receive intensive hands-on training as you learn to repair brass and woodwind instruments as well as technical and business skills required in the instrument repair field. You'll work with real instruments; you'll learn millwright techniques to help you create your own tools; and you'll take business courses to help you prepare for a variety of career options.
The Co-operative Education aspect of MIR allows students to gain experience by alternating academic semesters with paid work terms in positions all across Canada and even abroad. There is currently a huge demand for skilled instrument repair technicians in private music businesses, the military, school boards, instrument manufacturers and with touring professional musicians. Graduates from this Program have a 96 per cent placement rate within their field of study.
The MIR Program even offers you a glimpse into the classroom with temporary access to its Blackboard/WebCT, which features a virtual tour of the facilities, information on fees and tuition, and much more. For access to this site, contact us.
A Co-op education alternative is available to students in the Musical Instrument Repair program. In Co-op Education, students alternate semesters of academic study with periods of paid employment in a related position in industry. This arrangement permits students to acquire relevant work experience while also assisting in the financing of their studies.
Students may apply for the Co-op portion of the program during their first semester of course work. Co-op acceptance is granted by the end of the first semester upon successful assessment for co-op placement, provided that the student has maintained a sessional GPA of 2.0 or higher. Consult the Co-op Coordinator for further details.
Although every effort is made to obtain employment for each student, Keyano College does not guarantee a placement for the work terms. Contact the Chairperson of the Visual & Performing Arts department for more information
