Diploma

Keyano College's conservatory style Drama program is designed to develop the skills essential for success in the performing arts and related careers. Whether you want to be an actor, director, playwright, drama teacher, researcher or arts administrator, this two year program will give you the strong foundation you need.

You have a passion for acting; you have the talent and the drive to succeed; all you need is training. Pursue your passion with Keyano College's Drama Program. Action, intensity, hands-on experience, and practical application: these are the core features of our Drama Program. Classes are small - a maximum of 16 aspiring actors are accepted into the first year of the Program, and instructors are working theatre professionals. Award-winning guest directors, designers and choreographers supplement regular classroom instruction.

You'll be immersed in performance-oriented classes in acting technique, voice, speech and dialects, singing, movement, text analysis, theatre history, collective creation and stage combat, all leading to live performance on Keyano's stage. As a Drama student, you'll study and work in state-of the art-facilities including the 200-seat Recital Theatre and the 600-seat Keyano Theatre.

Keyano Theatre is a community facility run by a full professional staff which hosts four main stage and two studio productions each year. It is estimated that our theatres attract a total yearly audience of 10,000. As a Drama student you will be expected to participate in a minimum of three shows during the two-year Program.

Transferability

Graduates of the two year Drama Diploma Program may be eligible for transfer to the following institutions:

  • University of Lethbridge: School of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dramatic Arts, Combined Degrees: BFA/Bed
  • University of Alberta: Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting
  • University of Calgary: Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama

Theatre is a tough profession. To succeed you'll need passion, fierce commitment and quality training. At Keyano College, you'll get the practical, hands-on education you need to pursue your passion for acting.

Entrance Requirements

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent, with English 30/30-1 or 33/30-2 and audition/interview. Students who enter the program with English 33/30-2 and who wish to transfer may have to take English 030 and might not complete their transfer program in four terms as English 030 is not credited towards certificate or diploma requirements.
  • Mature students (21 years of age or older): English 30/30-1 or English 33/30-2, or equivalent, and audition/interview.
  • If you are missing one or two required high school subjects, it is possible to enroll in combined studies and take the necessary courses at Keyano College or a local high school, while beginning your drama studies.

Things to Know About the Application Process
