SATP Upgrading

SATP is a customized 7-month (29 weeks), full-time credit-program culminating in a 1-month work-placement with Syncrude Canada. The SATP is designed to give Aboriginal students the necessary skills and competencies to proceed on a trade's apprenticeship path with Syncrude or into further formal education at Keyano College. SATP focuses on upgrading students academics through the Connecting to College and Careers program with a continual grounding of how the subjects apply to trades person work.

In this program, trainees will cover the following areas:

  • Trades Exploration
  • Trades Essential Skills
  • Trades Preparation in the Workplace
  • Work Placement and Trades entry examination

Entrance Requirements

  • 18 years old +
  • First Nation or Métis status
  • Grade nine graduate
  • Interested in working in trades field
  • Interested in working in the oil sands
  • Drug and Alcohol free as per personal declaration
  • Physically fit for trades career
  • Class 5 Driver's License - eligible
  • Primarily Residents of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo
