Credential Granted by University of Alberta.
Keyano College is pleased to introduce an exciting collaboration with the University of Alberta that has resulted in the College offering a Bachelor of Education degree. This degree program will be a great fit for you if you're currently studying education or general studies, are looking for an afterdegree or are already working as an educational assistant.
If you're entering the third or fourth year of a Bachelor of Education Program, it is recommended that you contact an academic advisor to make sure all requirements are met for graduation.
Students can complete from 1 to 4 years (60 credits) of the Bachelor of Education degree at Keyano College. Having completed 2 years of studies at Keyano, students can transfer to the University of Alberta, University of Lethbridge, or other universities to complete the degree. Alternatively, students can remain at Keyano to complete year 3 and 4 of the Bachelor of Education Elementary degree in collaboration with the University of Alberta. Graduates of the four-year Bachelor of Education program (University of Alberta) and the five-year combined degree program (University of Lethbridge) are eligible to apply for Teacher Certification in the Province of Alberta and most other provinces.
Transfer institutions accept a limited number of students to the Bachelor of Education program. Successful transfer is based on proper course selection, credit hours completed, grade point average (GPA), and other requirements. These requirements vary depending on which university, route, and major/minor chosen. Some routes and majors are more competitive that others and may require a higher grade point average for transfer.
A number of universities and university colleges offer the after-degree BEd. The afterdegree BEd allows students to complete the education degree in two years following a first 3-year or 4-year degree in an Arts, Science, Commerce, or General Studies. Please contact an Academic Advisor for more information regarding this option.
All students in the Elementary Route are enrolled in a Generalist program that prepares prospective teachers in the required elementary school subjects. The program also requires each student to have a chosen teaching minor. The degree consists of 120 credits overall, of which 30 are normally taken in a Pre-Professional Year. Program Requirement details are below. Students planning to enter the elementary route are strongly encouraged to take the non-education elements in the Pre-Professional Year.
Students will have 3 routes of entry:
