Keyano Huskies 112  Kings Eagles 75

 

For the second straight game, the Keyano Huskies topped the century mark in a 112-75 decision against the visiting The Kings University Eagles at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre.

In a sluggish first quarter, the Huskies were up 17-16 and went into the locker room up 46-33.

It was showtime in the third quarter with 35 points scored...the highlight being an Yelly-Oop (not alley-oop) as fans yelled in appreciation of Huskies newcomer Nickolas McDonald when he took a high lob to dunk it through for two of his 16 points.

McDonald would be named Huskies Player of the Game. Stefan Jovic was top scorer for the Huskies with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Emmanuel Ansah added 15 points.

Eagles Player of the Game was Zachary Marchak, coming off the bench to score a team high 19 points and add 10 rebounds.

Huskies launched 39 from behind the three-point line, swishing 14 while their up-tempo defense managed 13 steals.

Nearly 300 fans in attendance at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre cheered wildly when Keyano Huskies’ guard D'Aubre Doucette hit a jumper with 2:02 in regulation against the visiting The Kings University Eagles.

As part of a new promotion for the 2018-2019 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference season, Huskies Athletics announced that they will give to attending fans, a coupon for free Papa John's Garlic Knots anytime when either the men’s or women’s Huskies top the century mark at home.

The fans went away happy as did the Huskies, as they won their opening game 103-67.

Huskies held a 18-0 lead until 1:53 remaining in the first quarter when Eagles’ Nigel Rolle broke mesh with a two-pointer to get the Edmonton team on the scoreboard.

Huskies led 45-20 at halftime.

In a third quarter plagued with fouls and sloppy play, the Huskies could not regain their tempo with the Eagles managing 23 points to their 27.

Huskies would go on to claim a 103-67 victory.

Huskies Player of the Game was Emmanuel Ansah with 14 points and six boards. Stefan Jovic added 16 points and 10 rebounds. Huskies had 44 points off the bench with Nickolas McDonald and Dante Dinter dropping 13 and 12 points respectively. Huskies shot 13-38 from beyond the three-point arc. Huskies also coughed up an impressive 17 steals.

Eagles Player of the Game was big man Jacob Wojcicki, who in 18 minutes, managed 10 points and seven rebounds. Nigel Rolle led the Eagles with 14 points.

Keyano Huskies 56 Kings Eagles 52

 

Get out the windex.

The Kings University Eagles‘ Gaddiel Kamuanya Tshiunza dominated the boards in the opening half against the host Keyano Huskies as the visitors went into the locker room at halftime up 29-26.

Tshiunza, a second-year 5-foot-10 forward from Fort Saskatchewan had an impressive 12 rebounds in the opening 20 minutes.

Eagles’ defense held the Huskies in-check until a three-pointer by Tyshaine Page tied the game 50-50 with 2:05 remaining in regulation.

Eagles tied the game 52-52 with Brittany Veldman scoring with 45 seconds on the clock.

Page sealed the victory with a three-pointer 17 seconds later for a 56-52 final.

Page, a fourth-year shooting guard from Kitchener, Ontario,  was Huskies Player of the Game. Teammate Augusta Kievisaite had 20 points and 13 rebounds while Moiyan Toure added 15 points and 14 rebounds.

Eagles Player of the Game was Tshiunza with 17 boards and eight points. Rosemaine James added 13 points.

Keyano Huskies 70 Kings Eagles 46

 

Host Keyano College Huskies  outscored The Kings University Eagles 14-7 in the opening 10 minutes.

Eagles picked up the defense intensity in the second quarter outscoring the home side 21-15. 

Keyano Huskies had a 29-28 halftime lead thanks to the play of veterans Augusta Kievisaite and Moiyan Toure scoring down low for a combined 19 points.

Eagles’ Marta Burchett kept her team close by draining two-of- three three-point attempts while teammate Rosemanie James scored six of her teams eight points in last 3:30 minutes.

An opening second half three by Huskies’ Sarah MacDonald, sparked her team by outscoring the visiting squad from Edmonton 22-6 in the next 10 minutes.

Huskies would go on to a comfortable 70-46 decision at Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre.

Kievisaite was Huskies Player of the Game with 26 points. Toure added 13 points and 15 rebounds. Burchett was Eagles Player of the Game with nine points and three steals.   Gaddiel Kamuanya Tshiunza, in 23 minutes playing time, had 13 points and six rebounds.

 

Up next: Keyano travels to Camrose to play the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings Oct. 19-20, 2018
