(Fort McMurray, AB – July 24, 2018) –The Trews will headline the 2018 Keyano College Gala, presented by Birch Mountain Enterprises Ltd.
A signature fundraiser, the annual Keyano College Gala—set for Saturday November 3 at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre—is the premiere black-tie event of the year for the Wood Buffalo Region, and organizers are thrilled to have secured a Canadian rock band as well-known and iconic as The Trews.
Since the band’s formation in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, The Trews have released five albums, with two achieving Canadian Gold Sales status. From those albums came seventeen Top-10 singles, including number one hits “Not Ready to Go” and “Hold Me In Your Arms.”
With multiple Juno Award nominations, The Trews are well known for a not-to-be-missed, energetic live show, and have been called into action to support acts like the Rolling Stones, Robert Plant, Guns N’ Roses, KISS, and Bruce Springsteen.
They also touched hearts across the country with their single “Highway of Heroes,” inspired by the 2006 death of former schoolmate, Captain Nichola Goddard – the first Canadian female soldier killed in Afghanistan. Net proceeds from the song go to the Canadian Hero Fund, an organization helping families of Canadian military personnel through academic scholarships.
At Gala 2018, revelers can expect to hear fan favourites and well as some exciting new songs from their new album Civilianaires, with two singles “Vintage Love” and “The New Us” already released.
Last year, the Gala raised more than $285,000 to support students, programming, athletics, theatre, and infrastructure improvements at the College.
Sponsorship opportunities for Gala are now available through Advancement at Keyano College. A comprehensive package describing the various opportunities and sponsor levels can be found online at keyano.ca/gala. Individual tickets will go on sale to the public in September, and will be available at the Keyano Theatre Box Office and online.
