While following developments on automation, Keyano College is seeing increased industry demand for graduates of its Haul Truck Operator program. Currently, the demand exceeds the supply and Keyano College is looking to close the gap through its programming.
The College is making important investments in the program, including the purchase of new advanced simulators to further enhance the training. These state-of-the-art simulators recreate virtual real-world conditions on our industry partner work sites that can replicate actual environmental, mechanical and operating conditions.
At Keyano, students learn to operate some of the world’s largest trucks through instructor-guided, computer-based instruction using Caterpillar 797 and Komatsu 930e Haul Truck Simulators. The program also provides students one-on-one training with experienced and knowledgeable professionals. As a result, Keyano College’s program boasts an outstanding reputation regionally and nationally with both industry and graduates.
Our industry partners remain committed the program; 99 per cent of our graduates are successful in obtaining paid work terms. Students may also be offered work term extensions by their employers. A career as a haul truck operator can be a rewarding and lucrative choice, providing a skill that is ubiquitous to mining activities globally.
