(Fort McMurray, AB – April 11, 2017) - Keyano College announced the 2017-18 coaches today for their court sports.

“Keyano has a proud history of academic achievement and athletic dominance,” said Peter Lawlor, Interim VP of Academics at Keyano College. “This year was an exceptional year for our teams.” Lawlor went on to applaud the provincial and national victories – attested to by gold, silver and bronze medals – of the men’s soccer and men’s volleyball teams. The women’s Huskies basketball team was also third in the ACAC North division and competed at the provincial level.

“The best news of all is that 86% of our student athletes also excelled at their academics,” Lawlor continued, “They maintained the academic standard set by Keyano College to keep playing for our great institution. “

So what about the coaches? Nic Davies is moving to the Keyano Huskies Women’s Volleyball head coach position. Davies has worked with the Keyano Huskies Men’s Volleyball team as an assistant/technical coach in 2016. In the past he has also worked with the Olds College Broncos Women’s Volleyball and the SAIT Women’s Volleyball teams, as assistant coach for both organizations. Those teams made it to the ACAC playoffs each year he was there.

The Keyano Huskies Men’s Basketball team welcomes Jeremy Wielenga as head coach. Wielenga’s most recent experience was with the University of Winnipeg Men’s Basketball team where he was lead assistant coach. Prior to that, he was at both Lakehead University in Thunder Bay and Brandon University as lead assistant coach for their men’s basketball team and for a period, interim head coach at Brandon. Wielenga has also coached high school and community teams and led them to victories.

Returning to coach are Dwayne Vigilance for the Women’s Basketball team and Keegan Kuhr as the Men’s Volleyball coach. Vigilance also trains elite athletes in the Ft. McMurray area as the ASDC Lead Trainer. Kuhr is the Be Fit For Life Coordinator.
