Keyano College will offer a new Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) program, beginning this February. Approvals were recently received from Alberta Advanced Education as well as the Alberta College of Paramedics.
“We’re very excited to be able to launch this program now,” said Fred Russell, Keyano College, Vice President Academic. “This two-year, advanced care level diploma program is needed in this area, and will give students the opportunity to remain in the Wood Buffalo region for the majority of their education.”
It will be delivered at the Clearwater Campus in a blended format that includes face-to-face engagement along with online learning activities. At graduation, students will be prepared to write the Alberta College of Paramedics regulation exam. Graduates can then apply their acquired knowledge and skills to various health and industry related settings.
Advanced Care Paramedics are vital team members of the Emergency Medical Services who provide advanced life support and medical and trauma care.
The college will also continue to offer its Primary Care Paramedic certificate program.
“Keyano has provided the Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) program for more than a decade in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, with a solid reputation in the community. Offering the Advanced Care Paramedic program is the next logical step in being responsive to community needs and in keeping with the college’s goals of promoting academic excellence and advancing institutional sustainability,” said Dr. Vincella Thompson, Dean, University Studies, Career Programs and Academic Upgrading.
