Keyano to launch the online Office Software Specialist Program this fall

July 26, 2010 10:50:00 AM (6 weeks ago)

Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Access have become mandatory elements of today's office environment. Learning these important applications will now become easier because of Keyano's new online Office Software Specialist Program coming this fall.

The Office Software Specialist is an online certificate program that consists of nine courses, such as Microsoft Word Specialist, Business Communications, and Windows & File Management to name a few. The courses vary in length.

Gina Langager, Chair, Business, Keyano College, notes the initiative is for both newcomers to Microsoft Applications and those wanting more expertise.

"The certificate program is targeted at two groups of people. The first includes those who need advanced experience or training in Microsoft Office applications, for example those who are moving into management. The second group includes office workers who have gaps in their knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. They do it all in a convenient flexible way," Langager says.

She adds the program, offered via eCampusAlberta, a consortium of 15 Alberta colleges and universities, is credit and ladders into other programs.

The nine core courses are offered in addition to specialty options, which enable people with workplace experience to not only advance their knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, but also partially prepares them for Microsoft Business Certification.

These courses are also offered as part of the Office Administration Diploma Program, which is also available via eCampusAlberta. Students who don't want to take the entire diploma program can still become experts in Microsoft Office applications by taking the certificate program.

"Since there is no structured timeline or sequence for taking the courses, students can plan their course load to suit their schedule. They can focus on the applications that are the most important to them first and pick up the other courses later," continues Langager.

The Office Software Specialist certificate program, which is designed for part-time study for full-time workers, typically takes from one to three years to complete.
