If your artistic endeavours have been on hiatus lately or if you are a practicing artist - Keyano has delightful news for you. For the first time, independent study art courses are being launched just for the local art community.
Drawing 396 begins next week on August 31 and will be taught by Erin Schwab, Art Instructor at the College. Painting 396 begins in January 2010, taught by Garry Berteig, well-known local artist and Art Instructor at the College.
Both are independent study courses which mean they are designed to further art studies, and are taught by instructors, holding Masters degrees. This is also means they are not introductory courses.
"Keyano's Art & Design faculty looks forward to meeting your needs and catering to your interests. We wish to help build an art community with these courses," explains Robin Smith-Peck, Art Instructor at Keyano College.
"Some students may have 20 years of experience, while others only a few years. This is not a beginner's course, and consists of a workshop format. We ask everyone to come in with ideas and an open mind," she adds.
The courses are held on Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and run for 14 weeks and are catered to individuals over 18, because of nude models that will be engaged for life drawing. Students will have access to the studio seven days a week and will be able to purchase supplies from the Keyano Bookstore.
The courses are three-credits each and students receive grades which can be used towards their transcripts or resumes.
"This allows for our second-year students to participate alongside the community," continues Smith-Peck.
All artistic backgrounds are welcome and no transcripts are needed. However, you are strongly encouraged to call and discuss your artistic experience.
"This will ensure we understand how we can help you. We are very excited to bring people together for the love of art - something magical will happen" she adds.
A maximum of 12 students only can be registered per class. Hurry, deadline to register for the Drawing course is August 31 with the Painting course deadline slated for December 18.
