Keyano College celebrates its 43rd annual Convocation on May 9 with a regal ceremony in the main theatre at the College.
Over 75 students from programs ranging from Trades to Office Administration will cross the stage to receive their parchment acknowledging the successful completion of their respective program. This represents only a portion of graduating students, as many have already returned to their home communities or have entered the workforce and are unable to participate in the ceremony. An estimated 300 people are expected to attend the much-awaited event, including family, friends as well as Keyano staff and faculty.
MLA Guy Boutilier and Mayor Melissa Blake will be attending the event. Several significant awards will be presented as part of the ceremony, including the Distinguished Citizen Award, being presented to Dr. Michel Sauve; and the Distinguished Alumni Wall of Fame Award, being presented to Dr. Cora Voyageur.
Gilbert Perras, Director, Student Services & Enrolment Management at Keyano College says the ceremony promises to be a memorable event. "Last year we changed things in that the graduates are now seated on the stage, which was a major success. We plan to keep the spotlight on our graduates, as this event is all about them," Perras said.
Kassie Attfield, an Educational Assistant Certificate Program student at Keyano is this year's valedictorian. She said, "being at Keyano College was one of the best experiences of my life. Small class sizes is the biggest advantage of a Keyano education."
So how do you become a Valedictorian? "Stay on top of your assignments, be outgoing and open-minded" advises Attfield.
The ceremony starts at 2 pm.
