These Education and Awareness sessions in partnership with Critical Incident Stress Management for Communities (CISM) help you understand symptoms that may arise after an incident and gives you the tools needed to get through it, and mitigate any long term effects.
WHAT IS A CRITICAL INCIDENT?
Critical Incidents are unusually challenging events that have the potential to create significant human distress and can overwhelm one's usual coping skills.
WHAT IS CRITICAL INCIDENT STRESS (CIS) OR TRAUMATIC STRESS?
It is an unusually strong emotional reaction that has the potential to prevent the individual from maintaining their normal duties and responsibilities.
Because they are so sudden and unusual, they can have a strong emotional effect on you right away or weeks/months later.
Crisis Interventions target the RESPONSE, not the EVENT
CISM represents a comprehensive, integrated, systematic and multi-component crisis intervention program. The word comprehensive means that there are elements of the crisis interventions in place before, during and after a traumatic event.
The main core components of CISM are:
- Education & Awareness aimed at pre-crisis preparation
- RITS - Rest, Information and Transition Services
- Crisis Management
