NDT Materials & Processes

A good foundation in EMC is very important to the NDT Technician.  This course offers the student the opportunity to learn about the Materials used in manufacturing, the metallurgical and mechanical properties that determine the strength of the materials and how these properties are developed, and how defects may be introduced into the material through some of these processes.

This will provide the fundamental knowledge of materials and NDT processes with respect to the broad area of study termed (engineering, materials and components).  To meet most certifying agencies, extensive knowledge is required in flaw types specific to welds, castings and forgings, especially in Levels 2 and 3 certifications.

Course Length: 40 hours

Prerequisite: Minimum 18 years of age

 

Radiation Safety for Exposure Device Operators (EDO)

Radiation Safety for EDO course teaches students the basic principles governing testing and inspection processes and the required safety precautions when working with radiation hazards with Inspection. Radiation Safety Operator, otherwise known as Certified Exposure Device Operator, is governed by the CNSC (Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission), and is a very important course for anyone anticipating working with Radiography. It teaches you how to handle emergency situations as well.

Course Length: 40 hours

Prerequisites: Minimum 18 years of age, NDT Materials & Processes, Math Skills Test OR Valid CGSB certification in a relevant Level 1 method

 

NDT Liquid Penetrant 1/2

Liquid Penetrant Testing teaches students the basic principles governing the Testing and Inspection Process and familiarizes them with the different types of parts tested. Topics covered will include equipment, surface preparing, penetrants, washing/cleaning, developers, inspections and Standards to follow and appraisal of the inspected piece(s).

Course Length: 40 hours

Prerequisites: Minimum 18 years of age, NDT Materials & Processes OR Valid CGSB certification in a relevant Level 1 method

 

NDT Magnetic Particle Testing 1/2

This course provides accurate, current and thorough training that leads directly to the ability of the student to perform valid Magnetic Particle Testing. Level I and II material is combined and presented in a single classroom course. The course starts with the basic theory of magnetism and continues through its many applications for the testing of ferromagnetic materials. Ample time is allowed for technique demonstrations and hands-on lab exercises.

Prerequisites: Minimum 18 years of age, NDT Materials & Processes OR Valid CGSB certification in a relevant Level 1 method

 

NDT Ultrasonic Testing Level 1

This course teaches students that ultrasonics uses transmission of high-frequency sound waves into a material to detect imperfections or to locate changes in material properties. The most commonly used ultrasonic testing technique is pulse echo, wherein sound is introduced into a test object and reflections (echoes) are returned to a receiver from internal imperfections or from the part’s geometrical surfaces.

Course Length: 40 hours

Prerequisites: Minimum 18 years of age, NDT Materials & Processes, Math Skills Test OR Valid CGSB certification in a relevant Level 1 method

 

NDT Ultrasonic Testing Level 2

This course will teach students about uses of transmission of high-frequency sound waves into a material to detect imperfections or to locate changes in material properties that can be used to inspect metals for Inspection. Ultrasonics uses transmission of high frequency sound waves into a material to detect imperfections or to locate changes in material properties.

Course Length: 80 hours

Prerequisites: Valid CGSB certification in the relevant Level 1 method.
