PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The program was developed as a result of identified needs from industry to have process operators with power engineering certification.

This two year program prepares students for entry-level positions in mineral and hydrocarbon processing primarily focused on the major oil sands companies.  The program trains students in Power Engineering and Process Operations.  Through a progression of classroom instruction linked directly to the workplace, eligible students have the opportunity to get their Firing Time through a paid work term.

Successful completion of this program qualifies students to write the 4th Class Part A & B ABSA Examinations

1st Year

  • 4 months - 4th Class Power Engineering Part A & Part B Theory
  • 6 month paid work placement (upon availability and eligibility)

2nd Year

  • 4 months - 3rd Class Power Engineering Part A and Process Operations
  • 6 month paid work placement (upon availability and eligibility)

WORK PRACTICUMS may be outside of the Wood Buffalo Region/Province. Students who are granted a
practicum outside of the Wood Buffalo Region/Province are responsible for relocation and accommodation while
on their practicum; as well as any other expenses incurred.

Local and regional industry partners have supported the program since 1996. 


PLEASE NOTE:
All efforts will be made to assist students to obtain awork practicum. Practicums are based upon students’
academic achievement, attendance, Alberta Boiler’s Safety Association certification and industry host
requirements, policies and regulations. Keyano College cannot guarantee a work practicum.
